Johannes Reineke

d. December 29, 2022

Johannes “John” Reineke passed away at home on December 29th, 2022 surrounded by family.

John was born in Germany, September 5, 1930, to a family of bakers. There he learned the trade which launched him into leading Reineke Brot. After immigrating to the United States with his wife and three children in 1977, through determination and hard work he founded several businesses. He found great success at The Baker as master baker. He helped his wife open a bakery, Greta’s Great Grains – a staple in Newburyport, MA for more than 22 years. John did not officially retire from the baking industry until well into his eighties.

He was a natural medicine enthusiast, an avid tennis player, and a lover of fast cars. People around the globe share fond memories of him telling stories about sourdough, trips overseas, hunting with friends, and falling in love with his wife, Greta, of 65 years. His calm demeanor will be greatly missed.

John is survived by his wife Greta Reineke; his three children and their spouses Dagmar & Chick Denault, Fritz & Margit Reineke, and Gerhard & Nicole Reineke; five grandchildren and one great grandchild: Eva, Sylvia, Stefanie, Alex, Lydia, and Chase; and his sister Ingrid.
John is predeceased by his parents Johan and Berna Reineke, his siblings Mickey, Werner, Gisela, and Moos.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to CareDimensions.org
