Ingeborg B. Kistler

d. October 10, 2021

Amesbury, MA – Ingeborg “Inge” B. Kistler, age 93, died in her sleep on Oct 10, 2021.   She is survived by two daughters, Lynn (Gregory Gadbois) Kistler, and Eva (George) Parker, six grandchildren, and her sister Eva (Don) Hansen.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alan, son, Stephen, and sister Ute Reid.

Inge was born in Goettingen, Germany in 1928, to Adolph and Magda Busemann.  After the Second World War, the family moved to Hampton, Virginia.  Inge attended Mary Washington College, where she got a degree in math, and then did graduate work in English at Columbia University and in aeronautics at Johns Hopkins University.  It was at Johns Hopkins that she met her husband, Alan, and she married him in 1955.

When Alan was in the army, stationed at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Inge worked alongside him, doing calculations on artillery motion.  Over the years, they moved with their growing family from Maryland to Southern California to New Haven, CT, back to California and finally, in 1969, to Evanston, IL, where they lived for the next 50 years.

Inge was a member of the North Shore Choral Society for 50 years, serving many roles, including General Manager, President, and Vice President.  In 1995, she wrote “A History of the North Shore Choral Society from 1936 to 1995.”   She tutored math at the Evanston elementary and middle schools.  She translated and published Enchanted Remembrances , a memoir of her great, great aunt.  She was active on the Evanston housing board, co-authoring a study on “Neighborhood Decline and Maintenance” in 1976, rewriting the Evanston housing code (with B. Zimmer) in 1977, and managing affordable housing for the elderly from 1979 to 1986.

Inge was a long-time member of the Unitarian Church of Evanston, where she sang in the chorus, and participated in the book club and social activities.  Above all, Inge loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, visiting often, and spending many vacations together.

Donations in Inge’s name can be made to the North Shore Choral Society, Evanston, IL https://www.northshorechoral.website/how-to-donate.htm . A memorial service for Inge Kistler will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, Nov 6th at the Chapel of Peace at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, IL.  All are welcome.
