Eivind Berge

d. December 12, 2022

Eivind Berge, 83, of Rollinsford NH, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2022 with his daughter Sandy, and granddaughters Chelsea and Morgan by his side.

Eivind was born April 21, 1939, in Kristiansand, Norway, son of the late Christian and Gudren Berge. He joined the Merchant Marines when he was 18, for 2 ½ years.  He then came to America sponsored by his Uncle Eivind. He settled in New Jersey, where he began working in carpentry and eventually became a house painter. This is where Eivind met his late wife, Judy, at a church youth group. After spending many years camping in both Maine and New Hampshire he moved to NH with his wife and two children Brian & Sandy. He enjoyed camping, fishing, square dancing, and cross country skiing.

Papa, as we called him after he became a grandfather, loved the ocean, ships, flowers, gardening, working out in the yard, burning in the fire pit, going to the gym, and driving his BMW Z3 aka “Little Car.” He made many trips to Norway over the years to visit his family and spend time on the island of Jomfruland where his brother had a cabin. He spent time swimming, boating, fishing, and catching king crab.

Eivind is predeceased by his wife, Judy Lee (VanBeekum) Berge; son, Brian Berge; and brother, Kjell Berge. He is survived by his daughter, Sandy Berge, and granddaughters Chelsea and Morgan of Rollinsford NH; his sister, Kari Bergst⌀l and her husband Roald of Kristiansand Norway; and nieces and nephews both in Norway and the States.

A celebration of his life will take place in the spring.
